abstract = "Wildfires devastate large areas of shrublands, forest and
grasslands over the world. Biomass burning plays a trade-off role
in the ecosystem services arena by opening spaces for agriculture
or livestock, controlling pests, or recycling nutrientes. Also,
this phenomena modify the carbon-cycling mechanisms, the
atmospheric composition, and biodiversity patterns. Therefore,
this work aims to improve the Fire radiative power (FRP) method
for real-time assimilation in the Brazilian Biomass Burning
Emission Model (3BEM) derived from the Aqua and Terra satellites,
the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) and
the Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) data. Initial results
indicates that the spatial distribution of Carbon Monoxide (CO)
for the years 2000, 2002, 2010 and 2012 that uses de FRP present
higher emissions but these differences have annual variability.
For example, in 2000 and 2002, CO emissions in the states of Mato
Grosso and Rondonia are lower than in the 3BEM. However, in 2010
and 2012 this sign is reversed. Moreover, each inventory contains
certain specificity, the rate of emission of CO estimated by 3BEM
and FINN models have a tendency to overestimate these emissions in
nearby regions of deforestation arc (in Amazon rainforest border),
especially in the state of RO and Midwest portion of the state of
Mato Grosso. This feature is not seen in the models that uses the
FRP (3BEM_FRP and GFAS) to estimate the biomass burning emissions.
Also, models based on FRP presentes a higher rate of CO in eastern
portion of the Cerrado, especially in the border between Bahia and
Tocantins, with 3BEM_FRP model higher than GFAS.",
